America’s ventilator production

Stop the Spread supports private sector companies committed to securing healthcare facilities’ access to the ventilators they need. We help accelerate production of critical care ventilators by connecting leaders in ventilator technology with manufacturers that rapidly produce and distribute these life-saving medical devices.

Ventilators: a critical need

Ventilators provided life-saving respiratory support for COVID-19 patients with severe ARDS, a respiratory complication resulting from the virus. They were the last line of defense for doctors treating COVID-19 patients, and a critical piece of medical equipment.

CASE STUDIES

Here are select opportunities that Stop the Spread helped connect and catalyze:

&

General Motors & Ventec’s Moonshot: 10,000 ventilators a month

Early in the crisis, General Motors and Ventec Life Systems came together to produce critical care ventilators. Given the urgency of the moment, Ventec needed a manufacturing partner who could rapidly scale production of their leading ventilator technology. Enter GM, who quickly repurposed their Kokomo, Indiana factory to partner with Ventec, and will soon ramping up production to 10,000 ventilators per month.

&

Honda & Dynaflo Pumps: Filling The Gap For Critical Ventilator Components

Dynaflo, Inc. produces a sophisticated compressor that is an essential component in critical care medical ventilators.  Due to the pandemic, Dynaflo was asked to scale up production from roughly 300 per month to 10,000 per month.  Dynaflo was able to work with their supply chain to rapidly increase the supply of needed parts, but faced challenges in assembling compressors at scale. Stop the Spread paired them with Honda of America, given expertise in mass production and willingness to help. The partners are now on track to meet their 10,000 compressors a month goal by June. Together, Honda and DynafloPumps are ensuring that ventilators get off the assembly line and into hospitals on time.
